Este 2020, ha sido un año inolvidable que cambió la vida de muchas personas, incluyendo la vida de usted, quien está leyendo este artículo. COVID-19
El evento más traumático que ha pasado este año es sin duda, la llegada del COVID-19. En diciembre del 2019, se descubrió este virus por primera vez en Wuhan, China. Al principio, todo mundo creía que este virus solo era problema de China. Sin embargo, con el tiempo comenzó a expresarse por todo el mundo. El 21 de enero fue cuando se reportó el primer caso del virus en Estados Unidos.
El 31 de enero la Administración de Trump declaró al país en una emergencia de salud pública. Poco después empezó la cuarentena. Muchos lugares como los negocios y las escuelas empezaron a limitar o cerrar sus puertas al público. El uso de máscaras se volvió mandatorio. La gente entró en pánico y corrió a las tiendas a comprar comida y bastante papel higiénico antes de que se acabara y se cerraran las tiendas. Muchos trabajos fueron perdidos, muchos planes fueron cancelados, y mucha gente se quedó en la calle.

Incendios en California

Vanessa Guillen

Sin embargo, al final de todo esto, hubo justicia para George Floyd y el mensaje hacia el gobierno fue muy claro, la gente está cansada de tantas injusticias y no dejarán de pelear hasta haya equidad de razas en los Estados Unidos.
Niños en la frontera separados de sus padres
De acuerdo con el The New York Times, bajo la administración de Trump, un total de 5,500 niños fueron separados de sus padres en la frontera de Estados Unidos. Según CNN, hoy, hay un total de 628 niños quienes aún no han podido ser reunidos con sus padres ya que no han podido ser localizados.
La causa de esta separación de familias fue por una idea emanada de la administración de Trump de separar a los niños de sus familias quienes intentan cruzar la frontera para buscar asilo. Mujeres esterilizadas por ICE sin consentimiento
La historia se repite, pero esta vez en detenciones de ICE. Un soplador informó que las detenciones de ICE estaban forzando procedimientos para esterilizar a las mujeres inmigrantes. The end of the year is approaching and LA PRENSA Iowa wants to teach you a little about what we have lived through these last 365 days that felt as if they were never going to end, but at the same time they passed quickly.
COVID-19

People panicked and ran to the stores to buy food and plenty of toilet paper before they ran out and the stores were closed. Many jobs were lost, many plans were canceled, and many people were left on the streets.

BLM
The Black Lives Matter Movement (BLM) is a movement that aims to get rid of white supremacy and empower people to intervene in matters of violence towards the black community. This movement also focuses on helping the black community improve.
In 2020, BLM supporters reached their limit when police officers used excessive force to arrest an African-American named George Floyd. This excess force resulted in George's death. There were protests across the United States to pressure the government to bring justice for the deaths of not only George, but also many other African Americans who have died at the hands of the police. These protests were peaceful, however, over time they began to turn violent when the authorities and others against BLM used violence.
Police violence has caused many wrongful deaths of minorities, especially African Americans. And, to make matters worse, those responsible for those deaths go free. It was about time that the community rallied in protest to put a stop to so many injustices towards minorities by white supremacists. The protests this year would be very different compared to the previous protests.
Due to the pandemic, many people were at home with nothing to do. Since many people did not have full schedules, millions across the nation came out to unite for this cause. There were protests everywhere and for many weeks causing terror towards business owners as many businesses were destroyed. In many parts the protests were peaceful, but in others the story was very different.
There were protests so violent that many people were injured, ended up in jail, and in the worst case, there were deaths. However, at the end of all this, there was justice for George Floyd and the message to the government was very clear, the people are tired of so many injustices and they will not stop fighting until there is race equity in the United States.
Children at the border separated from their parents
According to The New York Times, under the Trump administration, a total of 5,500 children were separated from their parents at the United States border. According to CNN, today, there are a total of 628 children who have not yet been reunited with their parents since they have not been able to be located.

Women sterilized by ICE without consent

They were not well informed about the gynecological procedures that the doctors were about to do. Many women entered the procedure room without knowing 100% what they were going to do. They did not even provide them with adequate medical equipment to protect them against COVID-19. These allegations of forced sterilization in ICE arrests are one of the few reproductive injustices towards immigrant women that have occurred during Trump's tenure. Presidential Election
After four years, it is time to elect the president who will be in office for the next four years. This year the elections were a bit unusual. With the pandemic at stake, many people voted by mail. Normally, the candidate with the majority of the votes is announced on the night of November 3. However, that was not the case this year.
Because many states voted by mail, the count was delayed. Some states, like Nevada, had to wait until November 10 to receive all the votes by mail. Pennsylvania couldn't count the votes until Election Day. It is worth mentioning that Trump filed lawsuits for fraud, however, he could never provide evidence of these baseless allegations. It was important that every vote be counted, and that was the biggest cause of the delay.
Needless to mention, these elections were quite tense. However, after so much damage done to the nation by former President Trump, many voted to remove him from office. It was a great relief to the majority of the nation when they finally released the final results and announced the new President of the United States, Joe Biden.
Not only was it exciting that Joe Biden won, but also for the first time we would have a female vice president. Vice President Kamala Harris, too, is part of the minority community. Many of us look forward to positive change for the nation.
A change that will break down barriers and tension between people.

During the pandemic, scientists have stepped up to create a vaccine to combat COVID-19. There are two vaccines that have already been approved, the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine and the Moderna vaccine. Since the beginning of the month, the vaccines began to be distributed throughout the world.
