Vuelve a Denison el festival Tri City BBQ Fest. Este año el festival se realizará el 16 y 17 de septiembre, donde el downtown de Denison estará lleno de música, comida y mucho más durante el 8vo. Tri City BBQ Fest. La asistencia al evento es gratuita y habrá diversión para todas las edades.
El director ejecutivo de la cámara de comercio de Crawford County (Chamber & Development Council of Crawford County (CDC, por su nombre en inglés) Evan Blakley dijo a este medio que una de las bandas confirmadas para el festival es Thunderstruck, una banda que hace tributo a AC DC. De igual manera dijo que mientras que su organización [CDC] compartirá más información sobre otros grupos musicales durante los próximos días sobre otros grupos musicales que estarán participando en el evento.
Cabe mencionar, que este año el festival tampoco ofrecerá entretenimiento de música latina ya que, según Evan la mayoría de los latinos no atienden a la primera parte del festival por que se encuentran trabajando hasta la media tarde del sábado. “La mayoría de las familias no pueden atender al evento durante la primera parte del día ya que muchas personas trabajan hasta horas tarde del sábado.” Agregando, “El punto de traer grupos musicales latinos es para que ellos [Los latinos] asistan y disfruten del evento,” agregó. “Siempre tratamos de aprender más no solo sobre la comunidad latina, si no sobre todas las culturas que viven en Denison porque queremos representarlos correctamente durante los eventos que hacemos, y nos alegra que participen y pasen un buen rato con sus familias.”
Entre otras actividades del día y medio que dura el festival, se desarrollaran exhibiciones de carros antiguos, variedad de comida y bebidas, juegos para niños y adultos, exhibición de carros antiguos, además de música rock en vivo y country.

Cabe mencionar que Tri City BBQ inició hace ocho años, cuando la cámara de comercio estaba en busca de una actividad que generara turismo para el crecimiento de la economía local. “Vivimos en una comunidad donde hay mucha producción de carne, sin embargo, no había un evento enfocado en las productoras de carne, así que pensamos que sería una celebración entretenida para la comunidad y nuestros visitantes.”
Evan también dijo que la atracción principal del evento es la competencia del mejor sabor de la carne cocinada al estilo BBQ donde participan aficionados a la cocina de tres ciudades como lo son Omaha, Sioux City y Des Moines, los que se enfrentan a uno de los más importantes jurados del Medio Oeste de Iowa que tienen la gran responsabilidad de decidir quién se llevará el primer, segundo y tercero lugar. “Es divertido ser testigo de la rivalidad entre las ciudades para probar quien es el mejor,”
Cabe mencionar, que en eventos pasados hubo reporte de varios niños estraviados, por los que este año Evan recomienda a los padres de familia, no perder de vista a sus hijos durante el festival. “Esperamos que las familias pasen un buen momento, y sobre todo les recomendamos a los padres de familias estar atentos de sus hijos durante todo el evento, especialmente de los más pequeños.”
De igual manera, el ejecutivo aconsejo a la comunidad mantenerse informados durante los lugares de estacionamiento que serán permitidos durante el evento.

Uptown Denison will be filled with music, food and more on September 16th and 17th during the 8th. Tri City BBQ Fest. Attendance at the event is free and there will be fun for all ages.
"We live in a community where there is a lot of meat production, and we realized there were no events focused on that specific topic. We thought it would be a fun celebration for the community," said Executive Director of the Chamber & Development Council of Crawford County (CDC) Evan Blakley.
The Tri City BBQ Fest started almost nine years ago, when the town was looking for an event that would help bring the community together while also serving as a tourist attraction and helping grow the local economy.
Among its activities, visitors will be able to find a car show, food sales, a wide variety of craft beers, live Rock and Country music, among other things. However, there is no doubt that the main attraction of the event is the cooking competition where a grand prize is awarded to the city that makes the best barbecue.
In order to do this, the festival invites the top chefs from around the country to attend the competition, however, its main focus is to attract residents of nearby metropolitan areas such as Des Moines, Sioux City and Omaha.
"It's fun to witness the rivalry between cities to test who is the best," Blakley said.
Additionally, one of the bands confirmed for the festival is Thunderstruck, an AC DC tribute band, and while the CDC will share more information over the next few days about other musical groups that will be participating in the event, Blakley told this media that this year there will be no Latino music groups.
"We've had Latino music groups in previous years, and we hope to have them back in the future, but planning to make this happen is important," he explained.
Part of the problem, according to Blakley, is that most families can't attend the event during the first part of the day, because many people work late on Saturdays. One of the solutions that the event coordinators have offered is for the Latino group to perform in the evening, but they would have to bring their own sound equipment, and this could complicate things a bit.
"The point of bringing a band to the event is that people can come see them," Blakley said. "We always try to learn more not only about the Latino community, but about all the cultures in Denison, because we want to represent them correctly during the events we do, but we're glad they still participate in the events and have a good time with their families."

While Blakley along with the rest of the organizers hope that the community will have a good weekend and enjoy the attractions that will be presented during the event, they ask families to keep an eye on their children, especially the little ones since they have received reports of lost children during the event in past years
"The good thing is that we always manage to reunite the children with their parents, but it is preferable that parents do not lose sight of them during the event," Blakley added.
He also advised the community to plan accordingly for the event, like making sure there is parking spots available, go to the banks in advance as several close early during the event, or make sure their plans – such as going on a trip – are not affected, among other things.
