Two people who know Frank see him in the ditch while traveling down the highway. He is sitting in the driver's seat of his car, slumped over the center console and unresponsive.
Passersby call Frank's friend from work for help. One of them breaks the next window to open the doors.
Frank can open my eyes and he tries to speak, but apparently no one notices his gunshot wound.
Friends transfer Frank to the passenger seat of his car. One of the friends drives the car to a house in Arion. The other friend goes to Dow City to tell Guzmán.
Guzmán arrives at Arion, tries to wake Frank up and says, "He does this all the time."
She took Frank away in the car, claiming that she would take him to a hospital. Instead, she drives home.
9:04 p.m.
The friend from work calls the Sheriff and asks "what to do if someone doesn't wake up after being slapped a couple of times." Him telling the Deputy Sheriff that he found Frank in the ditch.
The agent attempts to locate Frank's vehicle, finding it parked near the Dow City motorhome. He sees Frank without responding in the passenger seat with the doors locked.
Guzmán responds to the Sheriff's assistant's call when he knocks on the door and claims that she took Frank out of work and that they went to the ditch because Frank had a seizure.
When it becomes obvious that Frank had been in the house because his shoes were inside and he was barefoot in the car, Guzmán claims that she had not seen him after work.
Emergency medical responders evaluate Frank and discover his injuries. They transport him to a hospital in Denison, where he dies.
Admission
In a later interview with investigators, Guzmán allegedly admitted that she shot Frank and attempted to conceal the crime by concealing the pistol and casings of the shots she fired.
Search warrant documents show that law enforcement officers found four casings in a rubber glove, two bullets fired, and the pistol in the home.
