Graciela Vrieze fue la primera oficial latina enlistada en las filas del Departamento de Policía de Storm Lake, y su deber comunitario como policía llega a su culminación hoy 11 de enero con su retiro oficial de dicho departamento.
Graciela fue oficial del Departamento de Policía de Storm Lake desde 1933 (30 años), y fue no solo la primer oficial latina de servicio comunitario bilingüe en servir a la comunidad de Storm Lake; sino que también fue el puente de enlace entre la cultura latina y la policía, porque su trabajo no se limitó exclusivamente a patrullar las calles y asegurarse que las leyes no se violaran, sino que también ejecutó de manera voluntaria la importante tarea de educar a la comunidad latina en diferentes aspectos de la comunidad.
El jefe de la policía de Storm Lake, Chris Cole dijo “Vrieze ha desempeñado un papel fundamental para ayudar a nuestro departamento a establecer relaciones positivas entre la policía y la comunidad.” Agregando, “Nuestro Departamento extrañará su liderazgo y actitud positiva.”
Cabe mencionar que la la comunidad en general de Storm Lake está invitada a un refrigerio que la Ciudad ofrecerá en honor a Graciela el miércoles, 11 del presente mes en la Sala de Conferencias del Ayuntamiento de la Ciudad.

Graciela Vrieze was the first Latina officer enlisted in the ranks of the Storm Lake Police Department, and her community duty as a police officer culminates today, January 11, with her official retirement from said department.
Graciela was an officer with the Storm Lake Police Department since 1933 (30 years), and she was not only the first bilingual Latina community service officer to serve the Storm Lake community; but he was also the link between the Latino culture and the police, because his work was not limited exclusively to patrolling the streets and making sure that the laws were not violated, but also voluntarily carried out the important task of educating the Latino community in different aspects of the community.
Storm Lake Police Chief Chris Cole said, “Vrieze has played a critical role in helping our department build positive police-community relationships.” Adding, “Our Department will miss her leadership and positive attitude.”
It is worth mentioning that the community in general of Storm Lake is invited to a refreshment that the City will offer in honor of Graciela on Wednesday, the 11th of this month in the City Hall Conference Room.
