On Thursday, March 3, 2022, at approximately 11:30 p.m. m., the Storm Lake Police Department was called to 1 Marks Court for a phone call from a woman reporting a domestic assault in progress.
Upon arriving at the residence, police made contact with a man identified as Edgardo Ruedas, 29, of Storm Lake. Police found the victim, an adult female, with serious injuries to her face and hands at the residence.
After investigation, police reported that Ruedas attacked the woman at the residence with a large knife, using the knife to strike her face and hand, causing serious injury.
Police also said a two-year-old boy was present at the residence but was uninjured.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
Ruedas was taken into custody at the scene without incident and was charged with:
Attempted murder, a class B felony
Intentional injury causing serious injury, a class C felony
Domestic abuse assault with a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor
Child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor
Ruedas was transported to the Buena Vista County Jail where he was booked and held on $37,000 bond.

On Sunday, March 6, 2022, at approximately 5:00 a.m. m., the Storm Lake Police Department responded to the address of 605 Superior Street for a report of a domestic disturbance.
Upon arriving at the home, police identified the parties as Kattie Johnson, 31, of Storm Lake, and Darius Daniels, 29, of Storm Lake. After the scene investigation, police said Johnson and Daniels got into a physical altercation at the residence. Police allege that after the altercation, Daniels threatened to shoot Johnson. Police arrested both subjects. Police located a firearm in Johnson's possession and discovered that Daniels possessed a firearm magazine with ammunition. Police allege that Daniels has a prior criminal conviction that prohibits him from possessing firearms or ammunition. Both individuals were taken into custody at the scene without incident and transported to the Buena Vista County Jail.
Police subsequently obtained a search warrant for the residence in question where police found two additional pistols, a rifle and various ammunition.
As a result of the incident Darius Daniels was charged with the following: Domestic Abuse Assault with a Weapon, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, Two counts of Prohibited Possession of Firearms or Ammunition, a Class D Felony.
Kattie Johnson was charged with the following: Domestic Abuse Assault, a simple misdemeanor.
Both Kattie and Darius were booked into the Buena Vista County jail without bond.
All defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty.
