La nueva temporada de películas gratis en Denison comienza este sábado, 26 de agosto en Washington Park con la película “Luca” que debutó en el 2021.
"Elegimos esta película porque está más orientada a las familias y a los niños más pequeños," dijo Jennifer Smith, principal organizadora del evento.
"Con el regreso de las clases esta semana, pensamos que sería una forma divertida de reunir a los niños y a las familias fuera del aula para celebrar el comienzo del año escolar, y el final del verano."
El patrocinador de la presentación pública de la película es United Bank of Iowa.
“Luca” es una producción de los estudios Pixar/Disney sobre un niño que vive en el mar y huye de casa para vivir en tierra firme.
Originalmente, la película debía haberse estrenado ampliamente en las salas de cine, pero se estrenó en línea en el verano de 2021 cuando el mundo emergió de la pandemia de COVID-19.
“Luca” tuvo la mayor audiencia en streaming de todas las películas del 2021 y recibió críticas positivas.
“Me la recomendó gente en la que confío con niños pequeños,” dijo Smith. “Tiene un trasfondo un poco multicultural. Creo que eso es importante, especialmente en nuestra comunidad.”
Dijo que la historia de la película sobre un niño que hace conexiones en un mundo cambiante es algo con lo que todos pueden identificarse.
La presentación de la película este sábado en el parque reproducirá la “sensación tropical y de playa” que representa la película.
“Planeamos realizar actividades relacionadas con el agua,” dijo. “Vamos a tener un resbaladero gigante. La casa inflable con componente de agua que adquirimos el año pasado por medio de la donación de turismo.”
Jennifer dijo que la fuente de agua de la casa inflable aún no se ha utilizado porque la intención era guardarla para este año.
De igual manera, ella dijo que en el evento se instalará un rociador de agua para los niños y también habrá un área de voleibol cerca del rociador.
“No haremos mucho uso del agua porque sabemos que el área está bajo vigilancia de agua, pero esta será una buena manera para que todos se mojen un poco y aprovechemos lo mejor que podamos los recursos que tenemos en la comunidad,” dijo Smith.
Cabe mencionar que el Departamento de Bomberos Voluntarios de Denison participará en el evento con su nuevo camión de bomberos y ayudará con algunas de las actividades acuáticas.
“El departamento de bomberos siempre es uno de los grupos que ayuda con todo tipo de eventos comunitarios, y sé que los muchachos en general apoyan al departamento de parques,” dijo.
La Iglesia Roca de Salvación estará vendiendo pupusas, elotes, algodón de azúcar y raspados.
JV Delicias and Bakers en Broadway venderá postres caseros.
"Bakers on Broadway es el nuevo negocio de Tabby Hoyle y Denima Lund,"dijo Smith. "Estamos entusiasmados de tenerlos como participantes por primera vez en el evento, y esperamos reclutarlos también para eventos futuros".
Denison Parks & Rec servirá palomitas de maíz y nachos.
"Si alguien más quiere unirse, siempre estamos buscando más proveedores," dijo. "Dígale su nombre a Sam (el director del programa de recreación y parques de Denison, Sam Ellis) o a mí y estaremos más que felices de trabajar con usted."
Las actividades comenzarán el sábado en Washington Park a las 4 p.m.
Jennifer dijo que la actividad iniciará temprano para aprovechar la luz del día.

The new season of free movies in Denison kicks off this Saturday, August 26 in Washington Park with the movie “Luca” debuting in 2021.
"We chose this film because it is more geared towards families and younger children," said Jennifer Smith, the event's main organizer.
"With school back this week, we thought it would be a fun way to bring kids and families together outside of the classroom to celebrate the start of the school year, and the end of summer."
The film's public release sponsor is United Bank of Iowa.
“Luca” is a Pixar/Disney Studios production about a boy who lives in the sea and runs away from home to live on dry land.
Originally, the film was to have been released widely in theaters, but it was released online in the summer of 2021 as the world emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Luca” had the largest streaming audience of any 2021 film and received positive reviews.
“It was recommended to me by people I trust with young children,” Smith said. “It has a bit of a multicultural background. I think that's important, especially in our community."
She said the film's story about a boy making connections in a changing world is something everyone can relate to.
The film's presentation this Saturday at the park will replicate the “tropical and beachy feel” that the film represents.
“We plan to do activities related to water,” she said. “We are going to have a giant slide. The inflatable house with a water component that we acquired last year through the tourism donation.”
Jennifer said that the water feature in the bouncy house has not been used yet because the intention was to save it for this year.
Similarly, she said that a sprinkler for children will be installed at the event and there will also be a volleyball area near the sprinkler.
“We won't be using the water much because we know the area is under water watch, but this will be a good way for everyone to get a little wet and make the best use of the resources we have in the community,” Smith said.
It is worth mentioning that the Denison Volunteer Fire Department will be participating in the event with their new fire truck and will help with some of the water activities.
“The fire department is always one of the groups that helps with all kinds of community events, and I know that guys in general support the parks department,” he said.
The Roca de Salvación Church will be selling pupusas, corn, cotton candy and shaved ice.
JV Delicias and Bakers on Broadway will sell homemade desserts.
"Bakers on Broadway is the new business for Tabby Hoyle and Denima Lund," said Smith. "We are excited to have them as first-time participants in the event, and we look forward to recruiting them for future events as well."
Denison Parks & Rec will serve popcorn and nachos.
"If someone else wants to join, we're always looking for more providers," she said. "Tell Sam (Denison Parks and Recreation Program Director Sam Ellis) or me your name and we'll be more than happy to work with you."
Activities will begin Saturday in Washington Park at 4 p.m.
Jennifer said that the activity will start early to take advantage of daylight.
Daytime highs are forecast to be in the 80s.
Smith said the demolition of the Kids Kastle playground in Washington Park should not deter attendance at Saturday's movie event.
Movie season in the park are free events and everyone is invited to attend.
