La superintendente del distrito escolar de Storm Lake con doctorado en educación, Stacey Cole fue escogida para ser parte del Consejo Asesor de Superintendentes (Iowa Superintendent Advisory Council (SAC) por su nombre en inglés) del Departamento de Educación de Iowa para el año escolar 2022-23.
“Me siento alagada de que la directora de educación, Ann Lebo me haya escogido para ser parte de este comité, al mismo tiempo que estoy contenta que el ministerio de educación del estado este buscando la manera de diversificar las distintas voces que representan a nuestros distritos.”
Como miembro de SAC, la Doctora Stacey representará a sus colegas del distrito escolar de Buena Vista a través de la región. Además de que tendrá la oportunidad de interrelacionar, y colaborar con lideres estatales a nivel educativo para informar sobre los cambios que los distritos escolares necesitan y crear un impacto en las iniciativas educacionales que afectan a todas las escuelas públicas en Iowa.
“Creo que es importante alzar la voz en las comunidades menos representadas en nuestro estado, y pienso que nuestro distrito es uno de ellos. Estoy feliz de poder representar las voces de Storm Lake y otras áreas del noroeste en Des Moines,” explicó.

Por su parte, el Presidente de la Junta Educativa del distrito escolar de Storm Lake David Skibsted comentó, “No me sorprende que la Dra. Cole haya sido escogida para un puesto como este, ella es una superintendente maravillosa y estoy feliz de que tenga una oportunidad como esta.”
De igual manera, el señor David explicó que, en Storm Lake, la Doctora Stacey ha demostrado, “Dedicación hacia sus estudiantes, maestros, familias y comunidad. Al igual que ha hecho un gran trabajo. Estoy seguro que su trabajo impactará a nivel de estado y por ende en nuestra región.”
La Doctora Stacey dice que cuenta con una lista de problemas que al mismo tiempo son barreras que afectan al distrito, pero que su objetivo inicial se centrará en escuchar y comprender mejor el panorama general que están las otras escuelas del estado. “Siento que, una vez que aprenda más sobre esto, tendré una mejor idea sobre que problemas o barreras quiero compartir con el comité,” explicó la Doctora Stacey.
Además de Storm Lake, otros distritos escolares con superintendentes sirviendo en SAC este año escolar incluye Denison, Bettendorf, Council Bluffs, Dike-New Hartford, Fairfield, Iowa City, Lewis Central, MFL, Ogden, and West Des Moines Valley.

Last week, Storm Lake School District Superintendent Stacey Cole was appointed to serve on the Iowa Department of Education’s Superintendent Advisory Council (SAC) for the 2022-23 school year.
“I’m honored to be chosen by our Director of Education to be on this committee,” she said. “I have a lot of respect for Dr. Ann Lebo and I’m grateful that she is looking to diverse voices out in the field.”
As a SAC member, Cole will represent her colleagues in the school district and nearby areas throughout the region. In addition, she will have the opportunity to collaborate with state leaders to inform about the changes school districts need and create an impact on educational initiatives that will affect all public schools in Iowa.
“I think it’s important to lift voices in communities that may be underrepresented in our state. I think our district is one of those so I’m happy to bring the voices of Storm Lake and Northwest Iowa with me to Des Moines,” Cole explained.

"I'm not surprised that Dr. Cole has been chosen for a position like this, she's a wonderful superintendent and I'm happy she has an opportunity like this," said President of the SLCSD Board of Education David Skibsted.
Skibsted explained that, in Storm Lake, Cole has shown great dedication to her students, teachers, families and community.
“She does an outstanding job. I look forward to seeing the impact she will have on this state-level council,” he added.
The first SAC meeting in which Cole will participate for the first time will take place in a few days, so she does not yet know about the responsibilities she will have in this new position.
However, Cole already has a list of barriers affecting the district, but her goal during the start of her new position will be to better understand the bigger picture that schools fit within.
“Once I gain better knowledge of that, I’ll have an idea about which barriers I want to share on the committee,” Cole said.
In addition to Storm Lake, other school districts with superintendents serving in SAC this school year include Bettendorf, Council Bluffs, Dike-New Hartford, Denison, Fairfield, Iowa City, Lewis Central, MFL, Ogden, and West Des Moines Valley, according to a news release the Storm Lake School District shared.
