Denison celebrará Festival de la Herencia Cultural

El sábado, 25 de junio del presente año Denison celebrará a todos los inmigrantes del Condado de Crawford, con el Festival de la Herencia del Inmigrante, que incluye no solo a los latinos, sino que a todas las razas que representan a los 16, 998 habitantes del condado.
La formación de las carrozas que participaran en el desfile empezará a la 1:45 pm en la calle North Main, el desfile comenzará su recorrido por la North Main y la Broadway las 2:30 pm., y culminará en el parque Washington donde se realizarán diferentes actividades culturales y recreacionales para todas las edades.
La Liga de Ciudadanos Latinoamericanos Unidos (LULAC, por sus siglas en inglés), junto con sus miembros y ciudadanos de diferentes herencias culturales son los organizadores del evento.
Por su parte la alcaldesa de Denison, Pam Soseman ha estado involucrada en el evento desde hace dos años, pero que por la pandemia del COVID-19 no fue posible realizarlo. “Para mi es muy importante celebrar nuestras herencias culturales, en Denison todos somos inmigrantes y todos debemos celebrarnos a la vez, y sobre todo sentirnos orgullosos de nuestras raíces.” Dijo la alcaldesa.
La presidenta de la Célula de LULAC Denison, Alma Puga dijo “Queremos celebrar a todos los inmigrantes de nuestro condado, a los que vinieron antes de nosotros, los latinos; sino que también a los pobladores que tienen raíces irlandesas y alemanas y todos los otros diferentes grupos étnicos, al igual que a nuestra comunidad asiática y sudanesa.”
Durante el festival, los visitantes tendrán la oportunidad de degustar platillos de las diferentes culturas de Denison, y de una gran variedad de actos culturales de grupos locales.
Cabe mencionar que entre las actividades a realizarse, un grupo de jóvenes estará pintando un mural en la concha de la tarima del parque en honor al inmigrante.
El diseño de la pintura plasmará una mariposa monarca, que debido a sus hábitos migratorios se ha convertido en un símbolo de la inmigración.
Alma, dijo a este medio que desde diciembre del año pasado, LULAC organizó un concurso de dibujo entre los estudiantes de la high school, “Para que por medio de un dibujo los jóvenes el sentimiento de la inmigración que representará el pasado, presente y futuro de la historia de inmigración en nuestra comunidad.”
El mural llevará imprimido como lema la frase “Immigration is beautiful (La inmigración es bella, por su traducción al español.
Cabe mencionar, que en el concurso participaron varios jóvenes, pero solo uno seleccionado para el mural, sin embargo, todos los participantes recibirán una mención especial el día del festival. “El ganador empezará a pintar el mural el 18 de junio y todos los ciudadanos podremos y tomarnos fotos en el mural el día del festival,” dijo Alma, agregando “Para este proyecto, LULAC Denison recibió recibido ayuda económica del turismo de la Ciudad de Denison.”
Todos los fondos que se recaudarán en el festival serán destinados a las becas estudiantiles del año 2022 al 2023, activad que LULAC Denison realiza desde hace dos años para los jóvenes estudiantes de cualquier denominación cultural.
Las personas o negocios que deseen apartar un puesto de comida deben de comunicarse con Alma al (712) 267 – 4891. El pago por un puesto de comida es $75 y por un puesto de cualquier otra venta el precio es $25. Para las organizaciones sin fines de lucro es gratis.

On Saturday, June 25th, Denison will celebrate all Crawford County immigrants during the Immigrant Heritage Festival, which includes not only Latinos but all races and ethnicities representing the county's 16,998 residents.
Decorative cars that participate in the parade will get organized at 1:45 p.m. on North Main Street; the parade will begin from the North Main and Broadway at 2:30 p.m. and will culminate at Washington Park where different cultural and recreational activities will be available for all ages.
The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), along with its members and citizens from different cultural backgrounds, are the organizers of the event.
Denison’s Mayor Pam Soseman has been involved in the event for two years, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic it was not possible to do it up until this year. "For me, it is very important to celebrate our cultural heritages; in Denison, we are all immigrants, and we should all celebrate each other at the same time, and above all feel proud of our roots."
LULAC Denison President Alma Puga said, "We want to celebrate all the immigrants in our county, not only those who came before us, Latinos, but also the villagers who have Irish and German roots and all the other different ethnic groups, as well as to our Asian and Sudanese communities."
During the festival, visitors will have the opportunity to taste dishes from the different cultures in Denison and watch a variety of cultural performances from local groups.
Among the activities, a group of young people will be painting a mural on the shell of the park platform in honor of immigrants in Denison.
The design of the painting will capture a monarch butterfly which, due to its migratory habits, has become a symbol of immigration.
Puga said that, since last December, LULAC organized a drawing contest among high school students, so that "young people portray the feeling of immigration that will represent the past, present and future of the history of immigration in our community through a drawing."
The mural will display a motto with the phrase "Immigration is beautiful.”
Several young people participated in the art contest, but only one could be selected as the winner to paint their drawing for the mural. However, all participants will receive a special mention on the day of the festival. "The winner will start painting the mural on June 18, and all citizens will be able to take pictures in front of the mural on the day of the festival," Puga said. "For this project, LULAC Denison received financial aid from the City of Denison tourism."
All the funds raised at the festival will be donated to LULAC’s scholarships for 2022-23 school year; LULAC Denison has been offering scholarships to all local students for two years.
