Denison celebrará invierno social

Este sábado 3 de diciembre llega el Winter Snowcial a Denison acompañado de una amplia variedad de actividades, comidas y bebidas, películas, y un desfile al terminar el día.
El día comenzará con Merry Market at the Mall de 10 a.m. a 3 p.m., entre las calles Broadway y Main donde vendedores ambulantes y negocios locales estarán ofreciendo excelentes ofertas navideñas dentro y fuera de los negocios.
Este año el evento tendrá la novedad de la competencia de Santa Run (carrera de Santas), donde los competidores vestirán un traje de santa u otro personaje de la época navideña durante la carrera. La registración al evento tiene el precio de diez dólares, que incluye un boleto para una bebida con o sin alcohol, o simplemente el deguste de un chocolate caliente que estará ofreciendo The Bake Shop. Cabe mencionar que los Santas competidores estarán corriendo por los tres primeros lugares, al igual calificará al Santa más lento.
La Coordinadora de Turismo de la Cámara y Consejo de Desarrollo del Condado de Crawford (CDC por sus siglas en inglés) Shani Bonner comentó que la carrera de santas es algo que su organización ha querido hacer los años anteriores, “Pero había sido posible falta de tiempo y planeación en el momento.”
“He visto este tipo de carreras en otros lugares, y sé que la comunidad se divertirá al verla,” dijo. “Esperamos que mucha gente se presente tanto para correr como para apoyar a los competidores.”
Las personas interesadas en participar en las carreras pueden registrarse usando el formulario en la página de Facebook del CDC, o en persona en la oficina del CDC localizada en109 N. Main St., Denison. El formulario también estará disponible antes del evento en teatro Donna Reed. Todos los participantes deben de registrarse a las 11:30 a.m, ya que la carrera comenzara al mediodía.
Cabe mencionar que el se llevará a cabo siempre y cuando el clima lo permita, los participantes deben de vestir ropa apropiada para el estado del tiempo de ese día. Lo bueno es que el evento es en el centro de la ciudad, y los participantes podrán entrar a los negocios para calentarse y tomar bebidas calientes.” Dijo0 Shani.
Otros eventos incluyen una búsqueda del tesoro, donde habrá oportunidad de ganar grandes premios, manualidades para niños en el teatro Donna Reed patrocinado por Family Crisis Centers, al igual que decoración de galletas patrocinado por St. Croix Hospice; también se ofrecerán paseos en carruaje con caballos, música instrumental, y la visita de Santa en la Casa de Santa. Al igual que la hora del cuento en la Librería Norelius a las 10 a.m.
“Es una buena oportunidad para salir y disfrutar de la compañía de otros y llenarte del espíritu festivo, ya que durante el invierno muchos se ven obligados a quedarse en casa debido al clima frio,” comentó Shani
Al terminar el día, la comunidad podrá disfrutar del desfile navideño donde cualquier negocio, persona o grupo de personas podrán participar en el desfile que empezará con la formación de los participantes a 6 p.m. en la calle del correo e iniciará a las 6:30 p.m., encabezado por el Gran Mariscal: El Grinch.
LULAC Denison y el CDC se unieron para "Grinch that Gives" fundraiser (la recaudación de fondos “el Grinch que da” por su nombre en español), en el cual los tres “grinches” recaudaran fondos para una organización o proyecto en el condado de Crawford, la comunidad podrá donar por su Grinch o la causa favorita, el grinche que tenga más donaciones se convertirá en el Gran Mariscal del desfile.
Entre las opciones a apoyar están María Valdez quien busca reunir fondos para la guardería Under the Son para cubrir fondos de operación; Jennifer Smith busca reunir fondos para las becas que ofrece LULAC Denison; finalmente, la alcaldesa Pam Soseman busca reunir fondos para Denison Parks and Rec para reemplazar equipo en el parque Washington.

This Saturday, December 3rd, the Winter Snowcial arrives in Denison where you can find a wide variety of activities, food and drinks, movies, as well as the lighted holiday parade at the end of the day.
The day will begin with Merry Market at the Mall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., a market where you will find a variety of vendors and local businesses offering their products inside the building between Broadway and Main.
A new event this year is the Santa Run where participants will have to wear a Santa costume or other Christmas character during the race. Registration costs $10 and includes a ticket to a free drink at Beverage Garden or hot chocolate at The Bake Shop; prizes will be awarded to the 3 fastest times and the slowest Santa.
Crawford County Chamber and Development Council (CDC) Tourism Coordinator Shani Bonner said the race is something they had wanted to do in the past, but it wasn't possible due lack of time and planning at the time.
"I've seen these kinds of races elsewhere, and I know the community will have fun watching it," she said. "We expect a lot of people to show up for both running and watching."
Participants can register using the form on the CDC Facebook and dropping it off at the office at 109 N. Main St., Denison. The form will also be available prior to the event at the CDC office or outside the Donna Reed Theater, but participants must register by 11:30 a.m., as the race will begin at noon.
"We want to remind you that the event will take place as long as the weather permits, so wear warm clothes," Bonner added. "But the good thing about the event being in Uptown is that people can go into the local businesses to warm up and have hot drinks."
Other events include a scavenger hunt, where people can win grand prizes, children's crafts at the Donna Reed Theater sponsored by Family Crisis Centers, as well as cookie decorating sponsored by St. Croix Hospice; Horse-drawn carriage rides, instrumental music, and Santa's visit at Santa's House will also be offered. Just like family story time at Norelius Library at 10 a.m.
"It's a good opportunity to get out and enjoy the company of others and fill yourself with the holiday spirit, since many are forced to stay home due to the cold weather during the winter," she said.
To end the day, the community can enjoy the Christmas parade at 6:30 p.m. Anyone can participate, but they have to arrive at 6 p.m. outside the post office to prepare. It should be added that another novelty this year is that there will be a Grand Marshal: The Grinch.
LULAC Denison and the CDC teamed up for the "Grinch that Gives" fundraiser, which involves three "grinches" raising funds for an organization or project in Crawford County, the community will be able to donate to their Grinch or favorite cause, and whoever has the most donations will become the Grand Marshal of the parade.
Among the options to support are Maria Valdez who seeks to raise funds for the Under the Son daycare to cover operating funds; Jennifer Smith seeks to raise funds for scholarships offered by LULAC Denison; Finally, Mayor Pam Soseman is seeking to raise funds for Denison Parks and Rec to replace equipment at Washington Park.
Donation jars will be available at local banks, but people can also donate online by scanning QR codes the CDC shared on its Facebook page or by visiting the www.paypal.com/paypalme/LULAC381 page.
