El centro se creó en conjunto con personas vinculadas a Ucrania que viven en Iowa City, los que Veronica conoció a través de Internet y pidió ayuda para crear la plataforma; la que desde entonces ha crecido, y actualmente la página tiene casi 600 miembros.

Veronica es hija de un refugiado religioso de Kiev, por lo que la crisis de ese país la ha golpeado directamente. Su familia es judía y, bajo el régimen soviético, el antisemitismo era rampante. A la edad de 23 años, su padre se reunió con su madre y su hermana para irse; ya que su padre ya se había ido a Israel.
“Fue muy difícil salir en esos días, esto fue 18 años antes de la caída de la Unión Soviética, así que fue antes de que llegaran grandes grupos de refugiados. Pero mi papá estaba decidido a salir y con buena organización y mucha voluntad salió de allí,” dijo.
Para llegar a los Estados Unidos, su familia fue patrocinada por la Comunidad Judía de Los Ángeles.

Ryan Bruner, a student at Carrol Kuemper Catholic School, and his wife, Veronica Tessler, who has strong ties to Ukraine, are doing more than following the devastating news of the Ukraine war.
"I think a lot of people are paying attention to the situation, and we all want to do something," Veronica, the daughter of a Ukrainian immigrant, said in an interview with the Times Herald.
Veronica wife of Ryan Bruner, 32, son of Barry and Mary Bruner of Carroll, is one of the seven administrators of a Facebook group that emerged to help minimize the crisis and the growing need that the inhabitants of that country are experiencing. before the terror of war. That's why they created the Facebook page: Iowa Stands with Ukraine! (ISU), Iowa supports Ukraine, for its Spanish translation.
“I started the Facebook group with the desire to create a centralized hub for activities related to the war and the anti-war solidarity movement,” said Veronica.
The center was created in conjunction with Ukraine-linked people living in Iowa City, whom Veronica met online and asked for help creating the platform; which has since grown, and today the page has nearly 600 members.

Iowa Stands with Ukraine! does a ton for the cause.
It's an open Facebook group, so anyone can join. The purpose is to provide a forum where people are free to post and educate themselves about the situation. It also organizes events and rallies for its members to express their support to a wider audience.
But its main objective is fundraising.
Iowa Stands with Ukraine! seeks to spread information about the best ways to support the Ukrainian people through a wide variety of charities.
Since the group is a grassroots organization, lead organizers have to balance the organization's workload in addition to their full-time jobs.
“Here, we are all pressed for time, but this is a very important issue, not only because of my family's history, but because we are witnessing crimes against humanity: we are witnessing an attack on an independent and sovereign democratic nation... It is a matter of conscience to speak and do everything we can”, said Veronica.
Veronica is the daughter of a religious refugee from kyiv, so the crisis in that country has hit her directly. Her family is Jewish, and under the Soviet regime, anti-Semitism was rampant. At the age of 23, her father met with her mother and her sister to leave; since her father had already gone to Israel.
“It was very difficult to get out in those days, this was 18 years before the fall of the Soviet Union, so it was before large groups of refugees arrived. But my dad was determined to get out and with good organization and a lot of will he got out of there,” she said.
To get to the United States, her family was sponsored by the Jewish Community of Los Angeles.
"The common thread of humanity is what binds us together, and that's what makes this effort really beautiful during a very dark time," Veronica said.
