Crawford County Memorial Hospital ofrece a la población de Denison y comunidades de alrededor transporte gratis para los pacientes que carecen de un medio vehicular para asistir a sus citas médicas.
El programa de transporte gratis de CCMH funciona gracias a la generosidad de personas de buen corazón que sin ver color de raza o idioma ofrecen su tiempo sin buscar recompensa monetaria, y que solamente están interesados en la satisfacción personal que deja ayudar al prójimo.
Muchas de las personas que usan el transporte, son pacientes latinos, que desafortunadamente no cuentan con una persona bilingüe que les ayude a comunicarse durante la ida a ver al médico, o que conteste preguntas relacionadas a los diferentes departamentos del hospital que muchas veces son preguntas que los pacientes tienen al asistir a la institución.
Los actuales voluntarios de transporte solo hablan inglés, y aunque hacen lo mejor posible por ayudarle a los pacientes latinos, muchas veces es muy difícil para el paciente no poder expresar sus inquietudes, al igual que lo es para el transportista no poder ayudar con sus respuestas al paciente.
Dustin Durbin, del departamento de Mercadeo de CCMH dijo “Nuestra comunidad latina se beneficiaría mucho si dentro de nuestros voluntarios tuviésemos voluntarios latinos que sean bilingües.”
Cabe mencionar que para ser un voluntario o voluntaria del transporte gratis de CCMH, no se necesita saber inglés perfectamente, lo importante es comunicarse con el paciente durante el lapso del transporte de la casa de habitación del paciente al hospital o a la clínica que se dirige.
Actualmente, CCMH tiene espacios disponibles de voluntariados desde una a cuatro horas para los latinos que les gustaría ayudar como choferes, chaperones/chaperonas de transporte, y para la tienda de segunda mano Good Samaritan Center Thrift Shop.

CCMH currently has volunteer slots available from one to four hours for Latinos who would like to help as drivers, transportation chaperones, and for the Good Samaritan Center Thrift Shop.
