El distrito escolar de Storm Lake está construyendo una escuela nueva de primaria (Early Elementary School por su nombre en inglés), la cual ayudará a albergar el creciente aumento de la población estudiantil de niños y al mismo tiempo ofrecerá más espacio a la escuela actual.

The Storm Lake School District is building a new Early Elementary School, which will help accommodate the growing student population of children while offering more space to the current school.
The new school under construction will offer three educational phases for children, including pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade.
Originally, all three phases of the project were planned to be introduced at the same time, but the project was rejected as the district did not have sufficient facilities to accommodate students.
One of the reasons for the construction of a new elementary school is because the Storm Lake School District is constantly growing, causing its current schools to be overcrowded.
The director of operations for the Storm Lake School District, Jeff Tollefson said, “The [current] elementary is designed to have 800 students, and currently houses more than 1,000 students. We really needed the space, so we had no choice.”
According to Tollefson, the new school is expected to be completed by December 1 of this year, to begin phase one which will consist of moving kindergarten students from the current school to the new one over winter break. They also hope to move students from other grades to the new facilities throughout the year 2022.
It is worth mentioning that in general the school districts do not have the exact number of student enrollment for the new school year 2021-2022, however, Tollefson said that in 2018 the school district registered 2,632 students, in 2019 the Student registration was 2773 and in 2020 the student registration was 2863.
