On the evening of April 24, 2024, at approximately 6:00 p.m. m., the Storm Lake Police Department was called to the Park Court area of Storm Lake for an alleged report of trespassing. Upon arrival, police spoke with a resident who alleged that in the early morning hours of April 24, a suspect identified as Luis Rodriguez Garcia, 25, of Storm Lake, entered his home without permission and was confronted by the owner and fled on foot. Police allege that Rodríguez García returned to the home later the night of April 24, when he contacted police. On Monday, April 22, 2024, at approximately 5:47 p.m. m., the Storm Lake Police Department was called to the 900 block of East 5th Street for a vehicle that had rolled over. Upon police arrival they found a male subject, identified as John Garcia, 26, of Storm Lake, fleeing the scene of the accident. Police eventually pursued Garcia on foot and detained him in the 500 block of Oates Street. Police allege that evidence at the scene indicated that Garcia was operating the vehicle involved in the crash and also showed signs of alcohol.
Following the investigation at the scene, police allege that Garcia was operating a 2005 Dodge Neon eastbound on East 5th Street when he lost control of the vehicle while leaving the roadway and struck an unoccupied parked vehicle, a mailbox , a no parking sign and a tree, causing the vehicle to roll on its side. The vehicle Garcia was driving suffered an estimated $10,000 in damage. Police allege that Garcia suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment.
As a result of the incident, García was charged with the following:
Driving while prohibited, an aggravated misdemeanor
Reckless driving, a simple misdemeanor
Failure to maintain control, a simple misdemeanor
Hitting the tree, a no parking sign, and the mailbox, a simple mistake

Garcia was transported to the Buena Vista County Jail, where bail was set at $4,218.
