Ortopédista bilingüe en Harlan

Pedro Ricart es un ortopedista especializado en cirugía y tratamiento de la espina dorsal y el cuello.
Originario de la Dominica República, Pedro comenzó su educación en medicina antes de mudarse a Nueva York en el 2009 para hacer dos años de investigación con el Departamento de Columna en New York University; para después hacer su residencia en el Centro Médico Westchester durante cinco años.
Eventualmente, Pedro terminó en Omaha, y comenzó a trabajar para Miller Ortopedics en el 2017. Y recientemente comenzó a hacer viajes dentro de Iowa todos los primeros lunes de cada mes visitando clínicas en Harlan y Council Bluffs para hacer tratamientos menores o cirugías complicadas.
“Si es cansado y estresante, pero es para lo que estudie,” Pedro comentó. “Llevo entre seis o siete años haciendo esto, así que es básicamente parte de la rutina.”
Pedro cuenta que es fanático de los deportes e incluso los llegó a practicar hasta que se lastimó la rodilla, “eso me empujó a interesarme en medicina,” explica. Además de que su abuelo fue ortopedista en su país de origen, y Pedro le ayudaba de vez en cuando.
Aunque a veces su carrera suele ser frustrante ya que hay veces que las condiciones de sus pacientes son difíciles de describir o encontrar una respuesta, le fascina ayudar a sus pacientes ya que “es gratificante el poder ayudarlos, aunque no tenga una respuesta directa para su condición, pero así llego a conocerlos mejor y creo buenas relaciones con ellos.”
Además de Miller Orthopedics, Pedro también es parte del Centro Médico Myrtue, ubicado en Harlan, Iowa.

Pedro Ricart is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon fellowship trained in Spine Surgery. He offers spine, neck, and back pain consultations and will also treat fractures, spine deformities, scoliosis, herniated discs, and general orthopedics, according to Myrtue Medical Center website.
As a native of Dominican Republic, Pedro started his medical school in his birthplace, to then move to New York in 2009 to be part of a research group with the Department of Spine for two years in New York University. Later, he practiced his residency in the Westchester Medical Center for five years.
Pedro eventually ended up in Omaha and started working for Miller Orthopedics in 2017. Recently, he started coming to Myrtue Medical Center from Miller Orthopedic Specialists in Council Bluffs and Harland on the first Monday of every month for clinic visits, treatments and major surgeries.
“It can be stressful and tiring, but this is what I studied for,” Picart said. “I’ve been doing stuff like this for six or seven years, so it’s basically part of the routine at this point.”
He also said that he likes sports, and he used to practice baseball, basketball, and soccer until he hurt his knee; however, this incident would spark Picart’s interest in medicine. To add to that, his grandfather worked as an Orthopedist and Picart would assist him every now and then in his job.
Even though his job can be frustrating at times, not only because of his busy schedule, but because sometimes it is challenging to find an answer to what his patients’ conditions are; he finds it “rewarding when [he] can give them at least some guidance for their conditions, because it helps them calm down. It also helps build our relationship between specialist and patient.”
