Iowa Select Farms entregará lomos de puerco gratis

La bondad, el ayudar y dar al prójimo es algo que muchos practican durante la temporada festiva en los últimos meses que quedan del año ya que durante esta temporada muchas familias batallan para salir adelante a causa de la falta de trabajo o por la incertidumbre de las enfermedades de la temporada, los problemas financieros o simplemente porque no les alcanza para comida.
Es por eso que Iowa Select Farms junto con la Fundación Deb y Jeff Hansen puso en marcha el programa “Operación cena navideña” (Operation Christmas Meal, por su nombre en inglés), donde por varios días varios voluntarios de la organización estarán entregando lomos de puerco gratis en distintas comunidades a través de Iowa.
Madison Lafrenz, gerente del programa para la Fundación Deb y Jeff Hansen, dijo, “El objetivo principal es ayudar a las familias necesitadas durante las festividades para que puedan pasar tiempo con su familia y seres queridos sin tener que preocuparse por poner comida en su mesa.” Agregó, “Es una buena manera de aliviar el estrés, especialmente durante este tiempo donde hemos visto un incremento de al menos el 9.5 por ciento en los precios de la carne a comparación del año pasado.”
Las personas interesadas en recibir la carne solo tienen que presentarse en sus vehículos en el lugar donde se entregaran los lomos, un voluntario les entregará el producto sin hacer preguntas, y el recipiente podrá marcharse. No tienen la necesidad de abandonar sus autos, ni se les pedirá ningún tipo de información personal, según explicó Madison; la organización entregará un lomo por cada adulto que se encuentre en el carro.
“Nuestra pasión es proveer proteína nutritiva a los residentes de Iowa, es por eso que nos aseguramos a que tengan acceso a ella.”
Cabe agregar que Madison es parte del comité que decide qué comunidades se van a visitar cada año, y mientras que la organización busca visitar diferentes lugares del estado, preferiblemente, “Visitamos las comunidades donde están nuestras granjas o donde viven nuestros empleados,” explicó. “Buscamos apoyar las comunidades que nos representan y, si recibimos muy buena respuesta en un pueblo, tratamos de visitarlo seguido.”
Cabe mencionar que el 2 de diciembre, Iowa Select Farms entregó alrededor de 5 mil lomos en Des Moines, y ayer 6 de diciembre entregaron mil lomos en cada una de las comunidades de Humeston, Osceola y Mount Ayr.
Según Madison, la organización normalmente entrega alrededor de 17 mil lomos de puerco cada año. “Este año, esperamos tener muy buenos resultados durante el evento y que las personas se sientan cómodas en venir a recibir un lomo gratis,” comentó.
La Fundación Deb y Jeff Hansen es una organización sin fines de lucro que busca eliminar el hambre a través del estado de Iowa. Mientras que Iowa Select Farms es una organización ganadera privada en Iowa, la cual es considerada el 4to productor de carne de puerco en los Estados Unidos, y cuenta con alrededor de 800 granjas en 50 condados del estado, de según la página de Iowa Select Farms. Ambas organizaciones están a cargo de Deb y Jeff Hansen.
Cabe agregar que otro de los pilares de la Fundación Deb y Jeff Hansen es el agradecimiento hacia los militares veteranos, por lo que la organización también se asocia con distinto grupos de veteranos a través de Iowa que se enfocan en apoyar a este grupo de diferentes maneras.

Kindness, helping, and giving to others are something that many practice during the holiday season since many families struggle to get by due to the shortage of jobs, the uncertainty of seasonal illness, financial problems, and food insecurity, among other things.
That's why Iowa Select Farms, along with the Deb Foundation and Jeff Hansen, launched "Operation Christmas Meal," where, for several days, volunteers from the organization will be handing out free pork loins in different communities across Iowa.
"The main goal is to help families in need during the holidays so they can spend time with their family and loved ones without having to worry about putting food on their table," said Madison Lafrenz, program manager for the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation. "It's a good way to relieve stress, especially during this time where we've seen a 9.5 percent increase in meat prices compared to last year."
The pork loins will be delivered in a drive-thru, meaning people only have to show up in their cars, and a volunteer will approach them to hang out the product. They don’t have to leave their cars, nor will they be asked for any personal information, according to Lafrenz; In addition, one pork loin will be given to each adult who comes in the car.
“We just have a passion for providing a nutritious protein to Iowans, and we want them to have access to that,” she said.
Additionally, Lafrenz is part of the committee that decides which communities they will visit each year. While the organization seeks to visit different communities, she commented they prefer to "Visit the communities where our farms are located or where our employees live," she explained. "We seek to support the communities that represent us, and if we receive a very good response in a town, we try to visit it often."
On Dec. 2nd, Iowa Select Farms delivered about 5,000 pork loins in Des Moines, while yesterday, Dec. 6th, they delivered a thousand pork loins in each of the communities of Humeston, Osceola, and Mount Ayr.
According to Lafrenz, the organization normally delivers about 17,000 pork loins each year.
“We hope that we’ll have a big turnout in each of our communities and that everyone will feel comfortable coming out and grabbing a pork loin for the holidays,” she added.
The Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation is a nonprofit organization that seeks to fight hunger across the state. While Iowa Select Farms is a private farming business in Iowa, it is considered the 4th largest pork producer in the United States. It has about 800 farms in 50 counties in the state, according to the Iowa Select Farms website. Both organizations are run by Deb and Jeff Hansen.
Another pillar of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation is an appreciation for veterans, which is why the organization partners with various groups throughout Iowa that focus on supporting veterans in various ways.
