Festival de herencia cultural a la vuelta de la esquina

El tercer festival de la herencia cultural de Denison será el 29 de junio, y arrancará con el desfile que comenzará a las 2:00 pm con la alineación de las carrozas enfrente de la calle del edificio del correo, y culminará en el parque Washington con actividades recreacionales para todas las edades, así como la venta de diferentes comidas y juegos para chicos y grandes.
Alma Puga presidenta de la Liga de Ciudadanos Latinoamericanos Unidos (LULAC) dijo a este medio que los miembros de la directiva encargada de la organización del Festival de Inmigrantes de Denison, decidió extender la fecha de entrega de los cheques de patrocinio hasta el 30 de abril. “Decidimos extender la fecha debido a la solicitud de algunos de nuestros patrocinadores,” expresó Alma.
De igual manera dijo que aunque las cartas enviadas a los patrocinadores LULAC solicita entre $2,000 y $500 muchos de los cheque que han recibido han sido de $500. Sin embargo, aunque las cartas estipulan una cantidad definida, “Ustedes pueden donar lo que ustedes puedan. La mayoría de los negocios que ya mandaron su patrocino, han enviado $500. Y lo más importante es que todos participen con lo que puedan. Pueden mandar 150, 200, 300 dólares, etc. Nosotros pensamos que es mejor algo que nada. Así que por favor participen con lo que puedan.”
La joven líder, agregó, “Lo importante es que nos ayuden, porque este dinero no es solo para la realización del festival, sino que también va destinado a la beca de los estudiantes.”
Alma hace un llamado a los negocios que no pueden patrocinar con dinero, a que lo hagan con donaciones en especies. “Estas pueden ser como regalos de canasta básica para el hogar, artículos deportivos, carne, bicicletas, o cualquier otro articulo que podamos rifarlo en la subasta silenciosa que también realizamos durante el festival.”
Cabe mencionar que actualmente, LULAC no tiene ningún articulo disponible para la subasta. “En los años anteriores nos han regalado, bicicletas, artículos para la casa, tarjetas de regalo,” dijo Alma.
Al cierre de esta edición, el festival no contaba con el patrocinador mayor o gran marquí como se le nombra al negocio o persona que desea ser el patrocinador que dona más dinero.

Alma explicó que entre las novedades del festival, “Tenemos garantizado un grupo alemán-americano que vendrá de Omaha, y un grupo de baile asiático americano de Lincoln, Nebraska.
Alma hace un llamado a la comunidad en general y a los latinos de los pueblos cercanos a Denison para que participen en el desfile y en la actividad que culminará en el parque Washington. “Esta actividad es para todas las personas que quieran enseñar un poco del orgullo típico y tradicional de sus países.” Continúo diciendo, “Hago un llamado a todos los latinos que viven en Storm Lake, Denison, Carroll, Perry para que me llamen al (712) 267 – 4891 y me hagan saber con qué quieren participar.”
De igual manera, Alma explicó que hasta el momento se han registrado diez negocios registrados para vender en el parque Washington. “Pero todavía tenemos espacio para los vendedores que deseen participar. El precio por el espacio es de $35 para las personas que no vayan a vender productos comestibles, y $85 para los vendedores de comida, y tienen que tener la licencia de salud pública.
Alma explicó que de todo lo recaudado en el festival, y después de cubrir los gastos de este, “Denison LULAC envia una parte de lo recaudado a LULAC Nacional, y este a su vez, regresa el dinero con un adicional agregado del 60 % el cual será distribuido entre las 5 becas estudiantiles que nuestra organización otorgará a los estudiantes seleccionados por nuestro comité, durante la ceremonia de entrega de becas que los diferentes negocios e instituciones dan a los estudiantes seleccionados de la escuela secundaria de Denison (Denison High School), donde Denison LULAC ha estado presente otorgando becas por cuatro años consecutivos.

The third Denison Heritage Festival will be on June 29, kicking off with the parade beginning at 2:00 pm with the floats lining up across the street from the Post Office Building, and culminating in Washington Park with recreational activities for all ages, as well as the sale of different foods and games for children and adults.
Alma Puga, president of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), told this media that the members of the board in charge of organizing the Denison Immigrant Festival decided to extend the delivery date for sponsorship checks until April 30. . “We decided to extend the date due to the request of some of our sponsors,” said Alma.
She also said that although the letters sent to LULAC sponsors request between $2,000 and $500, many of the checks they have received have been for $500. However, although the letters stipulate a defined amount, “You can donate whatever you can. Most businesses that have already sent their sponsorship have sent $500. Alma calls on businesses that cannot sponsor with money to do so with in-kind donations. “These can be gifts such as basic baskets for the home, sporting goods, meat, bicycles, or any other item that we can raffle in the silent auction that we also hold during the festival.”
It is worth mentioning that currently, LULAC does not have any items available for auction. “In previous years they have given us bicycles, household items, gift cards,” Alma said.
At the close of this edition, the festival did not have the major sponsor or big brand as the business or person who wants to be the sponsor that donates the most money is named.
Alma explained that among the festival's new features, “We are guaranteed a German-American group that will come from Omaha, and an Asian American dance group from Lincoln, Nebraska.

Likewise, Alma explained that so far there have been ten businesses registered to sell in Washington Park. “But we still have room for vendors who want to participate. Alma explained that from everything raised at the festival, and after covering its expenses, “Denison LULAC sends a part of the proceeds to LULAC Nacional, and this in turn, returns the money with an additional 60% added which will be distributed among the 5 student scholarships that our organization will award to the students selected by our committee, during the scholarship award ceremony that the different businesses and institutions give to the selected students of Denison High School, where Denison LULAC has been present awarding scholarships for four consecutive years.
