La organización sin fines de lucro West Central Community Action bajo el programa Goodfellows (Buenos amigos, por su traducción al español), continuará aceptando donativos navideños hasta el 16 de diciembre, ya que planean distribuir las donaciones colectadas antes de navidad.
El enfoque principal del programa es que los niños menores de 12 años de familias de bajos recursos del condado de Crawford reciban regalos en la Navidad.
En Goodfellows participan varias instituciones del condado de Crawford, como es el caso de Larry Struck, voluntario del club Kiwanis y First United Methodist Church, “La generosidad de la comunidad es increíble, pero a veces llegan a quedar algunas tarjetas con nombres de niños sin cubrir de las que nosotros nos encargamos para que no se quede ni un solo niño o niña sin regalos en la Navidad.”
Cada niño es identificado con un número en una tarjeta navideña donde se enlista los regalos que ellos mismos piden recibir en Navidad. Las tarjetas se cuelgan en uno de los varios árboles navideños que se encuentran en los negocios de Denison, como Hy-Vee, Walmart, Bomgaar’s, Fareway y la oficina de Denison Bulletin Review.
Jodie Holm, de West Central Community Action, dijo a este medio, que este año la organización recibió aplicaciones de 76 familias y 176 niños.
“Este programa no sería posible sin la ayuda de las personas generosas y de los negocios locales que por 40 años nos han apoyado para que cada año el programa sea todo un éxito, y lleve sonrisas a las familias de nuestro condado,” comentó Jodie.

La iglesia First United Methodist con sus miembros voluntarios son los anfitriones encargados de preparar las donaciones para las familias, y de garantizar que los productos lleguen a las familias indicadas.
“No tiene explicación la alegría que nos produce ver la alegría reflejada en los rostros de los niños, especialmente al ver a los padres de familia recibir las donaciones de comida y los juguetes para sus hijos; incluso hay quienes se les llenan los ojos de lágrimas al ver la bondad de la comunidad, ya que sin la ayuda muchos de ellos [personas de la comunidad], muchas familias no podrían celebrar navidad.”
Cabe mencionar que, entre los regalos más solicitados entre los niños, se encuentran los juguetes de carros, Paw Patrol, Cocomelon, legos, esmalte de uñas y perfumes, entre otros. En las tarjetas también se encuentran solicitudes de chaquetas, calcetas y calcetines, guantes, y zapatos. También se sabe que al menos una familia está pidiendo pañales y leche en formula.

The Denison Bulletin Review and West Central Community Action are still accepting donations to the Goodfellows program until Dec. 16 as they plan to distribute the donations collected before Christmas.
The primary focus of the program getting presents for children under the age of 12 that come from a family in need.
In order to do this, different organizations work together like is the case of Larry Struck, a volunteer with Kiwanis Club and First United Methodist Church.
"The generosity of the community is incredible, but sometimes there are a few cards left that we take care of so that not a single child is left without gifts," he said.
Each child is identified with a number on a Christmas card and their gifts are listed on it. These cards are hung on one of several Christmas trees that were placed in locations such as Hy-Vee, Walmart, Bomgaar's, Fareway and the offices of Denison Bulletin Review.
According to Jodie Holm, outreach worker at West Central Community Action, they received applications for the program from 76 families and 176 children this year.
"This program would not be possible without the help of the generous people and local businesses that have supported us for 40 years to make each year a success and bring smiles to the families of our county," Holm added.
First United Methodist Church and its volunteer members are responsible for preparing donations for families and ensuring that products reach the right people.
"It's one of those things that bring you joy," Holm said. "Especially seeing parents receive donations of food and toys for their children; There are even those who tear their eyes at the sight of the goodness of the community, because without their help many of them would not be able to celebrate Christmas."
Among the most requested products are toys from Cars, Paw Patrol, Cocomelon, Legos, nail polish and perfumes, among others; Similarly, people are asking for basic things such as snow coats, socks, gloves, shoes, among others. It is also known that at least one family is asking for diapers and formula.
